The name PamLyn was created by joining partial names together from daughter Pamela and mother Carolyn.
PamLyn Enterprises was awarded a contract from the Xerox Corporation in April 1982 for a specialty sewn product from a series of designs from Carolyn’s children’s collection. This first major contract opened the company’s doors for manufacturing a Beatrix Potter Child’s Tote Bag in Springfield, Missouri. Xerox distributed this product through one of its subsidiaries for the nationwide educational system’s publication “Weekly Reader”.
Using her innovation Carolyn began designing sewn items of apparel and products for specific needs including a personal need in health care and home care products for her invalid mother.
The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) located at Southwest Missouri State was an excellent resource to pair a Mid-Western Hospital Distributor from Wheeling, Illinois and smaller manufacturer in Springfield, MO.
The Burrows Company local representative was introduced to PamLyn who inquired as to what specific need for Textile Products could be addressed within the local medical community. A need surfaced for a small disposable bag to be worn by a hospital patient to house a monitoring device. Several prototypes were submitted to St. John’s Regional Health Care Center for a cardiac monitoring pouch.
Upon approval and acceptance, St. John’s became the first customer for this type of product and PamLyn began manufacturing one private label telemetry pouch. The Burrows Company became the instrumental force for marketing and distribution and together with PamLyn’s innovation and function driven attitude developed 10 varied Telemetry Pouches and Specialty Products for the health care industry.
